Call for Applications 2026: Temppelikatu Artist Studio

12.01.–01.02.2026

Temppelikatu artist studio offers Finnish visual artists or visual artists living permanently in Finland the opportunity to live and work in Helsinki for a 6–12 month period.

The application period for the residency starting in autumn 2026 is from January 12 to February 1, 2026.

Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation’s Temppelikatu artist studio offers Finnish visual artists or visual artists living permanently in Finland the opportunity to live and work in Helsinki for a 6–12 month period. The studio is intended for visual artists living outside the metropolitan area.

The artist-in-residence will have access to a tall, bright 76 m² studio apartment in the center of Etu-Töölö at Temppelikatu 1 A. The furnished studio includes a sleeping loft, a kitchen, and a bathroom. In the studio, the artist can do all kinds of artistic work that does not disturb the other residents of the apartment building. Unfortunately, the space is not wheelchair accessible.

In addition to the studio apartment, the artist will receive an incentive grant (€600/month) to cover living, travel, and material costs. Eligibility for and payment of the incentive grant require working and living in the residence during the residency period granted. If needed, the artist’s partner or family may move into the studio with the artist. However, the residency does not accommodate pets, as we want to keep the space allergy-friendly.

The resident artist may choose to share their creative process with the public, for example, through studio visits or small-scale exhibitions.

Residency period

The studio is intended for working and living for 6–12 months. The length of the work period can be agreed upon within the framework of the artistic plan, which should be clarified in the application.

The currently available residency period can start at the earliest at the beginning of September and at the latest at the beginning of November 2026.

How to apply

The residency can be applied for through the online grant service during the application period. Please create an account on the web service and select “Temppelikatu Artist Residence”. You don’t have to complete the application at once; instead, you can always come back and continue filling it in within the application period.

The application form will open on January 12 and close on February 1, 2026 at 6 pm (Finnish time). Late or otherwise submitted applications will not be considered.

When the applications are evaluated, factors to be taken into account include, among others, the professionalism of the artistic activity, the work and funding plan, and the importance of the stay in Helsinki for the applicant’s work.

The applications will be processed by the Visual Arts Committee of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation. Applicants will be notified of the decision by the end of March 2026.
