The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation annually grants various awards to pioneers in science, art, and social activities.

Since the 1950s, Wihuri Foundation has awarded various prizes and donations without application, both to individuals and organisations. The awards serve as recognition of the recipients’ achievements and as tributes to the fields they represent.

On this page, you will find more information about the different prizes and a compilation of all prize recipients from different years.

Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation Prize

The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation Prize is valued at 50,000 euros, and it may be awarded either to a single recipient or shared among several individuals. The prize can be granted to a person who, for example:

  • is at an accelerating stage of their scientific or artistic career,
  • has conducted long-term and distinguished research work and demonstrated commitment to educating future generations of researchers,
  • has created exceptionally multidisciplinary or distinctive, boundary-breaking artistic work, or offered significant experiences to the public,
  • has contributed to the positive development of Finnish society, for instance through publishing activities or other active participation in public debate.

To identify suitable recipients for the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation Prize, we confidentially invite nominations from, among others:

  • Finnish universities,
  • the foundation’s trustees and experts,
  • previous prize recipients,
  • decision-makers and influencers in the cultural and media sectors.

The final decision on the recipient or recipients is made by the Board of the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation, based on the proposals received.

The Craftmanship Prize

The Craftmanship Prize is awarded to exceptionally skilled and dedicated professionals whose work combines technical mastery, creativity, and profound expertise in their field.

The recipients have represented a wide range of disciplines, including blacksmithing, glassblowing, conservation, art embroidery, stage design, ceramics, and photography. Their work strengthens Finnish culture and passes valuable craftsmanship and knowledge on to future generations.

The Community Prize

The Community Prize celebrates organisations that make a lasting and meaningful impact on people’s lives while advancing Finnish culture and society.

Over the years, the prize has been awarded to a diverse range of organisations — from those supporting children and young people, to initiatives assisting family caregivers, promoting voluntary national defense, offering seamen’s chaplaincy services, and contributing to international peace mediation.
