The Post Doc Pool application round for postdoctoral research abroad opens in August, with a total of €1.6 million available this round.
The Foundations’ Postdoc Pool autumn call for applications is open from 15 August to 15 September 2026.
The grants awarded by the Foundations’ Postdoc Pool are intended for recently graduated researchers from Finland who are planning to spend at least one academic year abroad. Applicants can apply for funding for a research period abroad lasting 6–24 months. Researchers from all fields of science are eligible to apply.
An online information session will be held on 27 August 2026 from 9–10 a.m. (EEST). Pool Coordinator Mikko-Olavi Seppälä will introduce the Postdoc Pool’s grants and application process and answer applicants’ questions. The session will be held in English. The Zoom link is available on the Pool’s website; no advance registration is required.
The results of the call will be announced in December 2026.

What is this about?
The Foundations’ Postdoc Pool is a joint grant scheme established by several Finnish Foundations. The Pool aims to promote the internationalisation of Finnish research by offering young researchers flexible funding that covers the full costs of a 6–24-month research period abroad from a single source. The Postdoc Pool opens for applications twice a year.
On the current three year period (2025-2027) the Pool is set up by the Ella and Georg Ehrnrooth Foundation, Emil Aaltonen Foundation, Alfred Kordelin Foundation, Foundation for Economic Education, Päivikki and Sakari Sohlberg Foundation, Finnish Academy for Science and Letters, Finnish Cultural Foundation, Finnish Medical Foundation, Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland, Society of Swedish Literature in Finland, Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion, Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation and Ulla Tuominen Foundation.
