We received nearly 6,500 applications in our spring grant call – what happens next?
Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation’s general spring grant call closed on Sunday, 31 May. During the summer, applications will be sent for peer review by experts across different fields.
As is its tradition, the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation organised its annual general grant call in May. Grants could be applied for across a wide range of projects in the fields of science, art and societal activities. Applications may be submitted by individuals, working groups consisting of private individuals, and organisations.
During the approximately three-week application period (9–31 May 2026), the Foundation received a total of 6,485 applications. In 2025, the number of applications received was 6,435, meaning that there was no significant increase in the overall number of applications.
Peer review during the summer
Grant applications are assessed using a peer review process.
The experts engaged by the Foundation possess the necessary expertise and experience in their respective fields of science, art or societal activities to evaluate the applications. The identities of the experts reviewing applications are not disclosed publicly in order to ensure that they are able to work without disturbance.
During the summer, the experts will review the applications and submit their recommendations for grant recipients within the budget framework set by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. Final decisions on awarded funding will be made by the Foundation’s Board in the autumn.
Applicants who have provided an email address will be informed of the funding decision in late September. Grant recipients will also receive an official award letter at the beginning of October.
The Foundation’s grants will be formally awarded on 9 October 2026, after which the list of grant recipients will be published on the Foundation’s website.
Can the application be edited after the application period?
Applications cannot be edited after the application period has closed. However, you may supplement your application, for example by reporting funding received from other sources.
After the application period has ended, the online service’s Grant Application page will provide an option for submitting additional information relevant to your application that became available only after the application deadline.
On the Grant Application page in the online service, you can use the “Application Management” function to:
- report funding received from other sources or a salaried doctoral researcher position
- report a change of address
- withdraw your application from the Foundation’s review process entirely
- attach certificates, financial statements, or other supporting documents that are essential to your application and became available only after the application deadline. Other attachments, such as the project plan, must have been included in the application during the application period.
