Call for applications: Artist Residence

The artist studio in Temppelikatu street enables Finnish visual artists or visual artists living permanently in Finland to live and work in Helsinki. The studio is available for a 6–12 month period. The application period for the residency starting in autumn 2020 lasts from 20 February to 20 March 2020.

The Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation’s artist studio offers Finnish visual artists or visual artists living permanently in Finland the opportunity to live and work in Helsinki. The studio is intended for visual artists living outside the metropolitan area.

The artist-in-residence will have access to a tall and bright 76 m2 studio apartment in the center of Etu-Töölö at Temppelikatu 1 A. The studio includes a sleeping loft, a kitchen and a bathroom. The studio is furnished. In the studio, the artist can do all kinds of artistic work that does not disturb the rest of the apartment building.

In addition to the studio apartment, the artist will receive an incentive grant (€ 500/month) to cover living, travel and material costs. Election and payment of the incentive grant require working and living in the residence during the residency period granted. If necessary, a partner or a family of the artist can move into the studio with the artist.

Residency period

The studio is intended for working and living for 6–12 months. The length of the work period can be agreed on within the framework of the artistic plan and shall be justified in the application. The residency period applicable at present can start at the earliest in August and at the latest in October 2020.

How to apply

The residency shall be applied for through the online grant service during the application period. Please create an account on the web service and select “Temppelikatu Artist Residence”. You don’t have to complete the application at once; instead, you can always come back and continue filling it in within the application period. The application form will open on 20 of February and close on 20 of March 2020 at 6 pm. Late or otherwise submitted applications will not be considered.

When the applications are evaluated, factors to be taken into account include, among others, the professionalism of the artistic activity, the work plan and the importance of the stay in Helsinki for the applicant’s work. The applications will be processed by the art purchasing board of Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation. Applicants will be notified of the decision in April.
